Concert “Time Travel”
50 years of diplomatic relations Germany-China
A sold-out anniversary concert: On the occasion of 50 years of diplomatic relations, international virtuosos and up-and-coming young musicians lift treasures of the cultural nations Germany and China. In subtle arrangements, we embark on a journey through the ages, with music from J. S. Bach, F. Schubert, R. Schumann, W. A. Mozart to Y. WANG to masterpieces for traditional Chinese instruments. Supplemented by impulses from literature and image projections, we ponder on what essentially makes our cultures distinct and related. For more information and images, please visit the event’s website (in German).

The Ring of the Nibelung
A brand-new theatrical language for intercultural dialogue
In co-production with the world-renowned China National Peking Opera Company, a whole new theatrical language was developed for cultural exchange: building on Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelung, eastern and western traditions were brought into a thrilling dialogue. The directors Anna Peschke and Wang Huquan, with Liu Dake, melded the stylized traditions of the Peking Opera with the archaic themes of the Nibelung myth to forge a vivid and exciting musical theater production that took us on a journey through exotic worlds and addressed the current issues of our times. New worlds of sound were built on the exciting frictions and musical interplay of modern European and Chinese compositions.

LANXESS Young Euro Classic China Concerts
Unparalleled artistic exchange
Starting with the Young Euro Classic Orchestra Germany-China, in which German and Chinese musicians met to perform at a ceremony in Beijing marking 35 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a peerless exchange was born. The innovative connection between the two countries via artistic collaborations led to a cooperation that, year after year, heralded new successes, such as the 40th and 45th anniversaries of German-Chinese relations. Committed partners made the collaborations possible, especially LANXESS AG, as well our unparalled artistic partners at the Central Conservatory in Beijing, the Berlin University of the Arts, Villa Musica Rhineland-Palatinate and John Neumeier’s National Youth Ballet.

Floating Dreams – A vibrant opera tradition out of China
The Suzhou Kunqu Opera Company on tour in Germany
The 600-year-old Kunqu Opera is one of the oldest theatrical art forms in the world and the origin of the Peking Opera. It fascinates with its colourful masks and engages with its unique interaction between dance and song. The Suzhou Kunqu Ensemble from the Jiangsu Province was established in 1956 and is one of the most renowned Kunqu ensembles in the country. In the piece “Floating Dreams”, the company showed the heroines’ struggle with love, despair and passion in three dreams from Kunqu classics, including the most popular Kunqu opera in China by Shakespeare’s contemporary Tang Xianzu – The Peony Pavilion.
